I received this email from Etsy about a new requirement to shipping to Germany: Basically you have to register in order for the German government to track any packaging materials you send into the country. It looks like there's no exceptions even if you only ship in 1-3 small boxes a year to Germany like me. I understand if it's a huge company that produces a lot of waste materials but apparently my 3 cardboard boxes a year are extremely concerning. I was hoping this only applied to etsy because its a big "marketplace" and everyone was being lumped in together there but it seems like it applies to everyone shipping anything in. The registration is complicated and is asking me for business information numbers I do not have. It takes into effect on July 1st so I'm just going to have to stop shipping to Germany after then, until they either implement a small business exception or I understand how it works better.
